The U.S. banker, philanthropist, presidential adviser, and heir to one of history’s most fabled fortunes was the world’s oldest billionaire. David Rockefeller a billionaire philanthropist, who was the oldest member of the vaunted Rockefeller family, has died at the age of 101.

Rockefeller’s spokesman, Fraser P. Seitel, said he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of 20 March 2017 at his home in Pocantico Hills, New York.

Rockefeller was the sixth child of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and the grandson of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller also headed what is now JPMorgan Chase bank.

After the passing of his elder siblings, Rockefeller had become the head of a widespread network of family interests in the business and
philanthropic arenas, ranging from environmental conservation to the arts.

To mark his 100th birthday in 2015, Rockefeller donated 1,000 acres of land next to a national park to Maine.
