Moon turns red on Saturday night for lunar eclipse

THE moon will turn red on the weekend for the second time this year.
Stargazers will have to wait until 2014 for a repeat performance of the celestial spectacular, visible only in Australia and parts of Asia.
The entire moon will turn red as it slips into the earth's darkest shadow.
"People will see the shadow of the earth moving across the moon, and for 52 minutes witness the usually milky white moon turn a blood-red rusty colour," Sydney Observatory's Geoffrey Wyatt said today.
It's the second total lunar eclipse this year, following another one in May. It will be the last one until 2014.
Mr Wyatt said Australia's east coast was one of the best places on earth to see the eclipse.
"It's a long, gradual, yet spectacular event," he said.
It will start about 11.30pm on Saturday and last until around 2.30am on Sunday.
