On Friday, the East Valley Tribune reported that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has already raised more than $1 million this year, alone for his re-election campaign. The five-term Republican now reportedly has a total of $4.1 million cash on hand.

In contrast, his opponent, Democrat Paul Penzone has only raised $148,000 this year.

Of course, since the passage of SB1070, the Obamaadministration has been carrying-out what many see as a personal war, not only against Sheriff Arpaio but against the entire state of Arizona as well.

In addition to conducting a three-year investigation of Sheriff Arpaio, alleging civil rights violations in a Department of Justice lawsuit, the Obama administration abruptly ended the federal government's partnership with Arizona law enforcement known as 287 (g) hours after the Supreme Court upheld the heart of SB1070.

The murders of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and rancher Rob Krentz which both took place in Arizona, along with Obama's unwillingness to defend our border with Mexico served to further alienate a populace overwhelmed with drugs and criminals from Mexico.

However, it is not only Arizonans who have voted with their dollars in support of the kind of tough immigration enforcement that Arpaio is known for, in fact, many of Arpaio's campaign donations have originated outside the state.

That nationwide support has been extended to the entire state of Arizona as well.

In July 2010, the New York Post reported that New York residents were providing the sixth highest amount of donations, from all U.S. states to the Arizona legal defense fund. Four of the top five states share a border with Mexico.

Gov. Jan Brewer set up the fund known as keepazsafe.comto defend the state from the various lawsuits filed against the state over their new immigration law. Because of her innovative solution as well as the generosity of law abiding folks across the country, no taxpayer funds were used defending SB1070.

After the Obama administration halted construction of the 700-mile fence along the Mexican border, as authorized by the Secure Fence Act of 2006, Gov. Brewer signed a bill allowing donations to be accepted for the construction of their own fence, as well as making it legal to use inmate labor for the actual construction of the fence.

While Obama has made it clear to the people of Arizona that he has no intention of using his authority to do anything but sue them while allowing drug and human smugglers to inundate their state, his apparent disdain for law and order seems only to have strengthened their resolve.

Incidentally, WorldNetDaily.com has just announced that Sheriff Arpaio has scheduled a July 17 press conference at which he promises to unveil "a shocking revelation" regarding Obama's eligibility (or the lack thereof) to be president.
