Short Guide on How to Apply for College

Getting into college can be a very strenuous process. Most high school graduands find themselves in a struggle when it comes to applying for college. It was a little bit tricky for me when I was applying for college, and I could not find a step by step guide anywhere. It is for this very reason that I have prepared this guide for anyone who wishes to apply for college. It goes without saying that different colleges have different application procedures that are unique to them, but there are some basic procedures that you need to follow to ensure a successful application. Make sure that you go through your college’s application requirements before starting your application process. Here are the basic steps that you need to follow when applying for college.

1.Fill the Application

First things first, you need to fill out the application. This is mostly your personal details form. It includes details of your name, place of residence, high school, and the like. It also allows you to state the extracurricular activities that you took part in while in high school. Extracurricular activities are a big plus in ensuring you get into college.

2.Writing the Essay

Some colleges require that you write an essay before you can be accepted. They will provide you with a topic that you have to write about. The admissions essay can make or break your application, so be very careful when writing it. Go over it a couple of times, get someone to go over it too before you submit it. Sometimes, you are given a chance to supplement your essay with more material. This can be another essay you have written or a paper you did. However, be careful when choosing what to add on as supplemental material. A recommendation letter from your high school can also add to your chances of getting in.

3.Admissions Interview

Sometimes, not often, an interview has to be carried out especially when the slots are limited. So you have to be prepared just in case. Most of the time, international students and those who are offered scholarships must go through an interviewing panel.

4.You are in!

When you go through all these steps, you receive your admissions letter. This will contain all that you need to know and do before you are admitted to the college and becoming their bona fide student. You have to respond to this letter, though, with an acceptance letter.
