When the innocent die by evil hands, who wins?

DECEMBER 16, 2012

Last weeks horrendous slaughter of beautiful and innocent children is difficult to take, even to those who knew none of them. Such a calamity shakes the entire nation and even the world of those who have feelings for others. And everyone asks, Why? Many zealously religious people may jump in and accuse God of taking vengeance on us for our evil ways and for taking His name from the schools, and all public places.

It is human nature to try and blame someone. In one sense, the reasoning of the zealots could be considered with some merit, but assuredly not in the sense they intend. The simple way to answer without explanation, is to say it was caused by sin. And truly, deep down into the causative factor it was, but we have to understand how and why. Certainly those innocent little ones were not to blame since they have no sin.

In the beginning there was no sin. But this sinless state didn’t last long at all. And, until it was committed, there was no death to be had.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5:12)

This answer does not satisfy the majority of people but a much deeper insight into the matter can enlighten us. The minds of men are free to do as they will. Everyone is a free moral agent and God does not ‘miraculously’ alter one’s course. The ethical and moral rules which are laid out in God’s word for his people are such that obedience by all would bring the most loving and peaceful world imaginable…or even beyond imagination.

Disobedience by all would cause the world to be totally chaotic and all activity would be as that of wild animals. A willingness to do whatever is necessary to obtain those things needed, and/or desired. And as God is omitted from one’s mind and others do likewise, sin abounds and care for others disappear. The unfortunate part is that those little children in Connecticut, and their families bore the brunt of a situation which is growing more and more each day. The abandonment of God or any mention of him and his word has now become the norm in places public and is even growing to the point that an individual will be unable to mention certain portions of the gospel message privately or in their own assemblies.

The introduction of the now popular ’if it feels good, do it’ into the minds of our youth, is having an adverse effect. Teaching them self esteem has become ’self superiority’ and others have no place, or have no right to discipline them in any way. We have young people who kill their parents. Instead of having the respect for them which they should have, they have disrespect and animosity.

As it now appears, the slaughter of the children last week and the similar atrocity of people in the theatre in Colorado, are becoming commonplace and as long as a ban on Christian morals and ethics continues to grow, so will the atrocities. So will the growing suicides among our youth. So will the addictions to various mind altering drugs…which cause a large percentage of our present killings and robberies.

But the answering of our subject question, who wins in the event of such an event as was the case in Connecticut last week. It is difficult to imagine that the children are the winners…but truly they are. The parents and other loved ones are the true losers and have only one consolation at this point and that is the knowledge that these have an assured place in heaven. Their beautiful and smiling faces are now brilliantly beautiful. Their spirit is now full grown and in an everlasting garden of heaven where time has no meaning or influence upon them, no pain or sorrow and they shall forever be with the Lord.

The words of Jesus are assuring, the following sentiment is found in 3 places:

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. (Mark 10:14) also inMatthew 19:14 and Luke 18:16.

The future of life in the world and specifically in the United States does not bode well. It is highly unlikely that discipline, morals and ethics will be strengthened in the future. Once the populace begins to stray so far from God’s shelter, they usually go farther and farther away, unless a phenomenal disaster occurs. Many people have prayed, have shown benevolence and kindness in these latest disasters, who never considered God before they occurred. But as the shock wears off, they will drift back into their previous lifestyle.
