The Truth Will Set You Free .....

What an eerie feeling driving through an abandoned town that once held up to 10,000 residents until the shut-down of the Glasgow AFB in 1976. I felt like I was in a scene of the Twilight Zone!
The town of St Marie, 17 miles north of Glasgow MT, is in private ownership with a population of 183 (2000 census). An ambitious plan is underway to create a Christian community with houses selling for $20,000 each; a Community with a Mission.
Glasgow Air Force Base was operational from 1957 until 1976 when it ceased all USAF activities. It housed Boeing B-52's and Boeing KC-135's. The facility now is all but unused, being known as Glasgow Industrial Airport.
In the early 70's I lived in Sidney, MT; not far from Glasgow. I remember the market in Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota was flooded with used appliances that came from Glasgow AFB. Some of the abandoned homes were actually moved to area lakes to be used as summer cabins.
These images were captured in 2002.
