Caesar was the name of a Patrician Roman family. Until 350 BC no one but a Patrician could be chosen for the senate, consul, or pontifex. The Roman priesthood dates back at least to 700 BC (read the history of Rome, Caesar and pontifical). In 74 BC Gaius Julius Caesar was elected to the pontificate, the most important body of priests in Rome. So it would seem their priesthood, having a pope, has always been and hasn't ended as of yet. After Rome fell in 476 AD the lamb/beast rose to power. By 757 the papacy became land owners. By 800 AD the pope had crowned Charlemagne the emperor of the Holy Roman empire which lasted until 1806 AD, but she will have her end (Rev. ch.17). Rev. 13:3 the pope lost his sovereignty in 1870 when Victor Emmanuel claimed 7 hilled city as state property. But Mussolini restored the pope as sovereign once again in 1929, and now Nov. 3, 2009 we witness the revival of the Holy Roman empire in which the pope is once again the united spiritual power behind the beast. Now the pope is acting as a czar over climate change. Will the false prophet once again crown an emperor like the apostle Johns Nero Caesar (666 in Hebrew) (Rev. 13:11-18)? Do not the popes still sit in the seats of the Caesars? As Henry H Halley wrote..the military spirit of Imperial Rome had entered the church. The church of Rome was made into the image of the Roman Empire. The Rome Empire seemed to conquer the church of the apostles and Christ, but Jesus has always had his true converts by the Holy Spirit which hell can not prevail against. Does this not read like (Rev. 13:15)? They say over 50 million people were killed by the Holy Roman Empire and crusades, etc.
