The Confederate States of America, a league of eleven southern States of the American Union that seceded from the United States in 1860-61. They were South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

You are so right the South were seditious to their cause, but don't blame the Confederate flag as to the plight of African slaves in America, slavery was never abolished because taxation is a form of slavery and the British treated the Irish inhumanely transporting convict to Australia on ships some 200-years ago. If they had Mickey Mouse on the flag would that make it right? 88

The Confederate flag of the United States is no "union flag of protest." It was seditious traitors to the idea of America. The Confederate flag represents a dark time in American history. Just as the Orangemen in Ireland march through Irish Catholic neighborhoods - not to "protest" but to intimidate and insult who they consider to be less then Infidels.
